Swiss watchmaker Franck Muller has introduced limited-edition timepiece called “Encrypto,” described as “the world’s first functional bitcoin watch.”
Launched in collaboration with crypto trading platform Regal Assets, the dial of the watch includes the logo of bitcoin and its genesis block address’ QR code.
The face also has a laser-etched QR code for a public wallet address that can be utilized to deposit bitcoin and see its balance. As revealed by Regal Assets on May 22, a sealed USB drive that stores the private key is also included.
According to the announcement, the “deep cold storage” wallet uses “offline generated, non-deterministic TRNGs (True Random Numbers Generated) that cannot be hacked.”
At present, the Encrypto can be bought online and at Franck Muller’s Dubai Mall outlet. The watch can be purchased with credit card, cash, bank transfer, and even bitcoin.
According to its website, the supply will be limited to 500 each of men’s and women’s versions, with price ranging from $10,000 to $60,000 a piece. Some models have diamonds and precious metals in the dial and frame.
Franck Muller is also considering having ether (ETH) and other “top five coins” in the future.
Meanwhile, luxury Swiss watchmaker A. Favre & Fils also revealed earlier this year that it is creating a handcrafted mechanical timepiece with a built-in crypto-wallet. The watch will cost between $102,000–$153,000, depending on its materials, features, and model.
