IcyWallet is a Safe Haven for Visually Impaired Bitcoin Enthusiasts

Bitcoin came up with a variety of wallet solutions. However, these concepts are not always appreciated by many. Visually impaired users, like any other users,  are entitled to safe Bitcoin wallet solutions. That being said, the Bitcoin Whitepaper in Braille project is essential. In partnership wth the American Printing House for the Blind, Bitcoin unfolded a new storage solution called the IcyWallet. This special addition is a unique project.

IcyWallet is unlike any other Bitcoin storage solutions available in the market. On the surface, it looks like a Raspberry Pi placed in a fancy case, but it is much more than that. It is a digital currency hardware wallet specially crafted to cater the visually impaired. A text written in a braille can be found on its surface so the users can quickly recognize it. A palpable number of people take literacy for granted in 2017 that is why a growing portion of the population is unable to read or write correctly. The number of visually impaired Bitcoin enthusiasts are more than expected.

IcyWallet being perceived as a significant project posts a question: why no one came up with such a concept in the past? While the project seems to have a niche market, they were only able to collect donations that could produce at least 50 copies. IcyWallet devices will launch to the real world soon. Open source software for different digital currency is the current project that would be available on the market soon. The IcyWallet is expected to launch in 2018, but the exact date is yet to be announced since it is a hobby project.

The exact number of units that will be manufactured is still unknown. The vision of the project’s creator is to provide secure Bitcoin wallet solutions to people of all strides of life. It is considered as a noble gesture as there will undoubtedly be a demand for the type of service since accessibility is an issue especially for the visually impaired.

At present, the absence of solutions that work well for all is just one of the many problems holding Bitcoin back. A portion of the users’ population have disabilities, and most of them cannot get involved in the ecosystem without assistance from the developers. Another thing is that the volatile nature of the digital currency is not beneficial for people with mental health issues. There are a lot of work to be done for Bitcoin, but it would not change the fact that it is a niche market. IcyWallet is the first initiative to develop the community.
