Blockchain analyst Tim Swanson is joining Clearmatics, one of the major competitors of his previous employer R3.
Post Oak Labs founder and director of research Tim Swanson has been on Clearmatics’ advisory board since 2015. He will serve as head of market intelligence starting next week.
“It is a privilege to join a company that has had a consistent vision for the confluence of finance and technology,” Swanson stated.
Prior to establishing his own consultancy, Swanson was the director of market research at enterprise distributed ledger (DLT) builder R3. He has been with the company since it started growing in 2015 until 2017.
Clearmatics is widely known as the technology partner for Fnality, the consortium of financial institutions developing an interbank “utility settlement coin” (USC) which secured $63.2 million in funding last week.
Swanson stated he will not be heavily involved on Fnality’s USC initiative but will be in charge with other Clearmatics projects. “Having pulled together regulators and institutions from across the world to incubate USC, I’m excited to contribute to the next generation of critical infrastructure,” he stated.
Last October, Clearmatics secured $12 million in a Series A round.
Authors Michael J. Casey and Paul Vigna described Swanson in their book “The Truth Machine” as “a vocal anti-bitcoin gadfly.”
Swanson himself is a longtime student of blockchain. He authored “The Great Chain of Numbers,” an early look at “2.0” applications like smart contracts, in 2014.
