Digital Assets Trading Platform ErisX Hires Executives from Youtube and Barclays

Crypto futures platform ErisX has hired three top-level executives from major companies in the financial and tech industries.

Announced February 7, Robert Thrash joined the company as chief operating officer. Thrash spent over 11 years at Barclays holding different leadership positions. He was most recently the managing director of agency derivatives services of the global bank. The business comprises futures execution and clearing, over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives clearing, and foreign exchange prime brokerage.

Thrash expressed his interest in cryptocurrencies as he said:

“Crypto sits at the intersection of technology, finance and regulation. Regulation will continue to evolve and impact this space bringing transparency to the market, which in turn should lead to increasingly active participation by traditional financial intermediaries. As these intermediaries provide market access to new market participants, a whole host of trading technology, crypto-based products and financing solutions will need to be created.”

On the other hand, Arnold Connell joined ErisX as head of infrastructure. Connell was a former senior technical program manager at YouTube, with a focus on the YouTubeTV streaming service. Before his stint at YouTube, he spent a decade at Google in various roles.

Last but not least, John Denza is ErisX’s newest business development executive. Denza was the former head of U.S. sales at Pico Quantitative Trading. Before Pico, he was the director of U.S. sales for equities and derivatives at BATS Global Markets (now acquired by Cboe Global Markets).

The new hires come as ErisX is preparing to launch spot trading for bitcoin, bitcoin cash, litecoin, and ether in Q2 of 2019, and futures trading for those assets in the second half of the year. The company is working on getting a derivatives clearing organization (DCO) license from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

“We are leveraging our industry relationships to secure talent and build the most robust, secure and regulated platform for digital assets,” ErisX CEO Thomas Chippas stated through a spokesperson. “This is the beginning of a new asset class. The leaders in this space are still being developed as are the biggest players still being built.”

Last December, ErisX hired Matthew Trudeau as chief strategy officer. Trudeau was the former head of product for IEX and president of the blockchain startup Tradewind.
