The Belarusian government is reportedly ready to put its whole weight behind the country’s local cryptocurrency and IT development efforts.
The state-owned Belarusian Telegraph Agency reports that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko recently addressed the country’s IT community during a meeting requested by the president.
Full government support for IT, fintech
Lukashenko discussed the growth of Belarus’s native tech industry and promised government support for local fintech companies.
The president also used the meeting as a chance to ask the country’s local IT community to suggest ideas for promoting further growth while outlining the steps his government has taken to bolster Belarus’s IT industry.
Nuclear power, Bitcoin mining could go hand in hand
Reportedly included among those steps is the president’s plan to establish an extensive Bitcoin (BTC) mining farm and trading hub in Belarus.
Further reports suggest that this mining farm will be built adjacent to Belarus’s first nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to begin operations before the end of 2019.
